Jacksonville Law Firm Founded to Help

Ellis and Bryant, P.A. was founded in January of 2015 with the simple goal of helping people with criminal charges. Founding partners Samantha Ellis and T.J. Bryant worked as prosecutors for Duval and Clay County for over fifteen years combined. While they are honored to have served their communities in this way, Samantha and TJ believed that they could do more to help people by defending the rights of men and women charged with crimes. Which is why in 2015, Samantha and TJ left the State Attorney’s office to found the firm of Ellis and Bryant, P.A.

We Brought Our Expertise to Family Law

TJ and Samantha have taken and completed over fifty jury trials in addition to hundreds of hearings and bench trials. Ms. Ellis worked as a legal intern in law school helping the poor and indigent of Duval County with divorce and family law issues. She also spent time with a Family Law firm prior to joining the State Attorney’s office. She saw the same injustice happening in Family court that we observed in the criminal world. People were losing time with their children because of frivolous injunctions granted by over cautious Judges. All too often we saw inexperienced attorneys failing to object to hearsay or other inadmissible evidence to the detriment of their clients. We knew that with our trial experience and background we could bring those skills to litigate in the realm of Family Law as well. Ms. Ellis also brought her passion for the subject from her time helping as a legal intern. In fact, our very first case as a firm was a modification of a divorce decree. We were able to successfully negotiate a modification of the equitable distribution of the client’s pension. The original judgment was poorly drafted by another firm and left our client losing a greater portion of the pension than required by law. Normally a modification of equitable distribution would not be modifiable and our client would have been stuck in a bad agreement. However, we recognized that there was a discrepancy in child support and that the opposing party owed child support to our client. Using this, we negotiated the modification that our client wanted and saved thousands of dollars of the client’s pension.
